craft museum's holiday exhibition opens sunday

The Ohio Craft Museum's ninth annual holiday exhibition and gift sale will open Sunday.
The opening reception for "Gifts of the Craftsmen" will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the museum, 1665 W. Fifth Ave. The exhibition will be open through Dec. 23.
All items featured in the exhibit are available for purchase, museum director Betty Talbott said.
"This is a chance for people to find one-of-a-kind gift items for their
family and friends," she said. "You won't be able to find these items
anywhere else."
More than 50 fine craft artists from across the country have contributed items that include handcrafted jewelry, pottery, art glass, baskets, clothing and more.
"We have something for everyone at all price ranges, from stocking stuffers to fine craft items that cost a few hundred dollars," Talbott said. "Most of the items are in the $20, $30 to $40 range."
Among the items offered are carved wooden bowls by James Eliopulos, colorful
blown-glass ornaments by Shawn Messenger, Joseph Bower's ash-glazed ceramic
bowls and canisters and fine metal jewelry with semi-precious stones by Maryann
Posch.
Most of the participating craft makers have previously had items displayed at the museum, Talbott said.
"We thought it would be good this year to have a lot of functional items," such as mugs, cups, platters, glasswork, scarves, hats and hand-crafted oven mitts, she said. A variety of holiday ornaments and decorative items will also be on sale.
New items will be added throughout the run of the exhibit, Talbott said.
Proceeds of the sale will benefit museum exhibitions and education programs, such as the gift-making workshop for children the museum will hold next month, she said.
The workshops will be offered from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday Dec. 13 and 20. Youngsters ages 6-12 will finish two projects, complete with gift wrap they decorate themselves.
"It's a great opportunity for children to make nice handcrafted gifts their family members will appreciate so much," Talbott said.
The fee for the workshops is $25 per child. Pre-registration is needed and can be made by calling the museum at 486-4402.
The Ohio Craft Museum is owned and operated by Ohio Designer Craftsmen. During the Gifts of the Craftsmen exhibition, the museum will be open extended hours, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1 to 4 p.m. Sundays.
